A Storyteller & Explorer — National Geographic AlArabiaya

"Every story we tell is a chance to gently rewrite the future of our planet..."
As a naturalist and passionate advocate for nature and all its beings, R.T. Hickey works on Nat Geo projects that align with her personal ethos of: exploring, doing greater good and conservation and preservation of our past and present natural and heritage worlds. Building on her expertise in the region's history and multi-layered storytelling and photography, she writes in-depth features for Arabic Nat Geo. Her most recent projects include ‘Arabian Leopards,’ ’Places of Eternal Life in the UAE: Graves of the Bronze Age,’ and ‘Aflaj: Water Channels.’ She is also working on the “Art on Rocks” project in MENA, Sand Cats and historical food maps that tell us the stories behind some of the world's most famous dishes.
"It’s a responsibility to amplify voices from the frontlines of conservation—to capture disappearing wonders, document fragile ecosystems, and reveal nature’s extraordinary resilience. Through storytelling, we don’t just observe; we become advocates.
Because when we truly see the natural world—its struggles, its wisdom, its quiet miracles—we can’t help but speak for it and become its delicate lifelines..."
Here is a collection of impactful stories for National Geographic Alarabiya, that help raise awareness about our precious species and our precious resources, such as water, engaging communities and empowering them to be part of conservation efforts.
